Four scanning electon micrographs of Ralstonia sp.
The two panels on the right show morphologies
of two lineages that have been derived from an ancestral morphology (two panels
on the left) by
cultivation for 1000 generations on minimal agar.
In addition to changes in the outer envelope, cell
length can deviate from the ancestral length of 1.73 microns by decreasing to 1.5 microns (L15), or
increasing up to 10.52 microns (L16).
